Huddersfield New College is delighted to report that in the year where 16 out of their 34 A Levels were the new and more challenging Linear A Levels, decided solely by final exams, with no links to coursework and to AS levels, their students recorded a fantastic 99.6% pass rate, with an amazing 43% achieving the highly coveted top grades of A* A and B. These are the best A Level results in the College’s recent history and yet again confirm the recent Ofsted judgement that learner outcomes at the College are ‘outstanding.’
Of particular note are the achievements of Shaun Milne (A* A* A) who will be taking up a place at Oxford University to read Physics, Jemma Moorhouse (A* A B) who will be taking up a place at Oxford to read Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Adam Varley (A* A A ) who will be taking up a place at Manchester University to read Biomedical Science and Jessie Ray (A* A* A) who will be taking up a place at Warwick University to read History and Politics. Jodie Reeve was another high-flying student, securing an A plus three A* grades and is moving on to study Sociology at the University of Lancaster.
Not to be outdone, students on Vocational A Levels also recorded a 99.5% pass rate, with 91.1% securing a Distinction* Distinction Merit grade profile. Of these, 52% achieved the highly coveted Distinction/Distinction* grade profile (a straight A* and A grade profile at A level), twice as impressive as the national A* and A average!
Of particular note are the achievements of Maria Hussain in Science (D*D*D*) who is progressing onto a degree in Audiology at Leeds University, Aleena Jasmine in Science (D*D*D*) who is progressing onto a degree in Radiology at Leeds University, Kate Riley in Health and Social Care and Science (D*D*D*) who is progressing onto a degree in Midwifery at Bradford University and Kelvin Muzamhindo in Sport (DDD) who is progressing onto a degree in Physiotherapy.
Overall 65% of our Class of 2017 studying for an advanced level programme achieved A* A and B (or equivalent).
Principal, Angela Williams, commented “ The results our students have received today are the best ever in the College’s long history. Our students have worked tremendously hard for these record breaking results. They should be extremely proud of their achievements. We are! And we wish each and every one of them every happiness and success in the next stage of their life, whether this is at their university or with their employer of choice . It has been our pleasure and our privilege working with them to help them to realise their ambitions for life after Huddersfield New College.”
