Maths students at Huddersfield New College enjoy a range of exciting enrichment opportunities to stretch and challenge them in and outside of the classroom.

Recently Maths students have taken part in the Senior Maths Challenge, a highly respected exam which helps them to explore the wider Mathematical themes linked to the A Level syllabus. Certificates are only awarded to students who are amongst the highest performing nationwide, and 34 of the College’s students secured a bronze certificate and 4 students a silver. A presentation ceremony will take place later in the month.

As part of helping students to develop additional skills and experiences that give them the competitive edge when applying for university, students can enjoy a range of enrichment programmes. This includes the ‘Cypher Club’, a code breaking club lead by the University of Southampton and the Girls Maths Olympiad which four female students recently entered.  Ivy Oldroyd, a student at the College, was awarded the coveted Distinction certificate in recognition of how her performance in the Olympiad put her amongst the top 25% in the country. These are just some of the reasons why Mathematicians choose HNC!
