Current Huddersfield New College student Katy Tordoff (pictured bottom row, 3rd right) has been officially signed for the Castleford Tigers Women’s Super League Rugby First Team.
Katy also plays for the Under-19s Academy as Loose Forward, and in the first team as Centre. Katy is part of the Talented Athlete Support Scheme (TASS) at the College, and is supported to combine her punishing training schedule with her studies. She averages around nine hours of training a week, in addition to playing matches.
Katy says: “Women’s Rugby is growing in popularity, and it is an amazing sport. I’m really proud to have been signed for the Castleford Tigers and being able to play at the top of my game. I would really encourage more girls to consider trying Rugby as a sport – it is a great way to stay fit and release stress! I am really looking forward to seeing how Women’s Super League Rugby continues to develop.”
Matt Burton, who leads the TASS programme: “This is another amazing story from our TASS scheme, and Katy is trailblazing in the sport of Women’s Super League Rugby. We’d like to congratulate Katy on her signing, and look forward to seeing her continue to develop and succeed.”
Huddersfield New College has a Women’s Rugby team for students interested in exploring the sport – further information can be obtained from the Sports department
