Huddersfield New College has announced that entries for the annual Short Story Competition are now open.

Students from across the College are being invited to put pen to paper (or fingers to the keyboard!) and share a story. This year’s theme is ‘open’, meaning that students can submit a short story of any genre. The only criteria is that the story must be no more than 500 words in length.

All students are encouraged to take part, and get creative. All the stories will be judged by a panel, and there is a chance for students to have their work published as part of a short story collection. There will also be a prize of a £50 Love to Shop voucher for the overall winner.

Rebecca Hill, College Librarian says: “Our annual Short Story Competition always attracts some unique, inspiring and creative entries! Every year students show a real talent for telling a great story, regardless of the subjects they are studying. Creative writing is a skill that supports all of our students as they progress to university or the workplace, and we are really looking forward to enjoying this year’s entries and celebrating the imagination and creativity of our young people as part of a published collection of work.”

The competition closes on 23rd March and entries should be submitted to Librarian Rebecca Hill ( Student’s need to include their name and ID number on their story.
