Take A Bow: Final Performance For Hnc Acting Students

Year 13 students from HNC’s Performing Arts department recently showcased their acting skills in a gritty end of year performance of ‘Hymns’, a play which focuses on four characters following the funeral of a friend.
Performed in the College’s specialist theatre space, The Boilerhouse, a company of seven students performed the four characters of Scott, Karl, Simon and Steven. The play focuses on the aftermath of a mutual friend’s funeral and is a study of grief and blame, as the audience follows the characters coming to terms with the death of a friend.
Performing Arts students at HNC benefit from a state of the art theatre space, and students studying the subject have plenty of opportunities to hone their acting and performance skills throughout their time at College, preparing them for a career on the stage. This final piece formed an integral part of the students’ final grade, and was one of several performances the company have worked on together over their two years at HNC.
Mark Johnson, Teacher of Performing Arts, comments “It truly has been a pleasure to work with Mairead, Chloe, Harry, Grace, Kyle, Katie and Kulesha over their two years at the College and see them develop into fine actors who have a genuine talent for their craft and a commanding stage presence. ‘Hymns’ is a challenging play to perform and I’m incredibly proud of the way the company handled such sensitive material. Although I am sad to say goodbye, I am delighted that they will progress confidently on to their future careers in the industry”.
