A GREENER FUTURE: HNC LAUNCHES NEW ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE COURSE
10.10.2023HNC has today revealed that Year 11 students looking to join HNC in September 2024 can now apply for an exciting new course, with the College revealing that it is now offering A Level Environmental Science. HNC is one of a handful of providers of this exciting course in the region, and interested applicants can discover more about this new course at the upcoming Open Event on Saturday 14 October.
A Level Environmental Science sees students exploring the key challenges facing our planet, and how human behaviour presents a threat to our environment. The course sees students explore how science can address this damage with conservation methods and sustainable biological resources. Studying the course involves the real world application of scientific knowledge and theory, underpinned by a range of field trips and experiments.
The course is suited to anyone who has a real interest in the environment and sustainable management. While it is naturally perfect for those looking to pursue related careers in areas such as Marine Biology, Animal Science, Environmental Science, Zoology and Conservation, due to the wider skills this course develops such as analysing data, debate skills and problem-solving skills, this course complements a wide range of careers and progression plans.
In addition, HNC has introduced the opportunity for students to undertake Core Maths as an addition to a full time A Level or A Level equivalent study programme, and gain an additional qualification. This complements subjects such as A Level Environmental Science and A Level Psychology perfectly.
Emma Reeves, Head of Faculty for Science and Mathematics comments: “We are really excited to be introducing A Level Environmental Science to our course offer. Given the current climate change crisis, students who opt to take this course will learn about the impact of humanity on our planet, and how science can help us to address the damage. As part of our enriching experience, students can expect to see themselves applying their knowledge during trips to undertake experiments – last year our students had the opportunity to undertake a life-changing trip to South Africa to take part in a conservation project. As well as the opportunity to develop scientific knowledge and skills, students will also participate in topical discussions and debates.”
