ALWAYS A PLEASURE: HNC TRAVEL STUDENTS VISIT BLACKPOOL
12.10.2023Travel and Tourism students from HNC have recently returned from a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach to discover more about the domestic leisure industry in the north of England.
The group spent the day with the Pleasure Beach team and attended a valuable and informative talk from the Marketing department, discovering more about how the team promotes the Pleasure Beach and looking at the challenges and opportunities of marketing a local attraction. The group also discovered how good customer service underpins the wider marketing strategy and ensures that visitor numbers remain high. This was followed by an opportunity to find out more about the variety of roles that take place behind the scenes in the travel, tourism and leisure industries in an informative Q&A session. The afternoon saw the group experience the Pleasure Beach from the perspective of a guest, enjoying plenty of time on the rides and attractions and seeing the team’s vision brought to life!
Amanda Beirne, Teacher of Travel, comments “The UK travel, tourism and leisure sector is one of the UK’s biggest employers- with millions of visitors from both home and abroad enjoying the sights and attractions the UK has to offer. It was fascinating to take a look behind the scenes to discover how the Marketing team promotes a leisure attraction like Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach, and the hard work that goes in to maintaining excellent standards of customer service so that visitor numbers remain high year on year. Visits like this genuinely enlighten our students to the breadth of roles available in the travel and tourism industry. The knowledge gained from this visit directly relates to modules studied within the Applied Travel and Tourism qualification, so not only will this trip help with our students wider progression plans, it also underpins the lessons learnt in the classroom”.
