STUDENT CAREERS TAKE OFF: JET 2 APPRENTICE INSPIRES NEXT GENERATION OF HIGH FLYERS

HNC’s Applied Travel and Tourism students recently welcomed Jet 2, one of the region’s largest employers, into College to discover more about the company’s recruitment processes and explore the range of exciting roles in the travel industry they can progress to after College.

Cerys Glynn, an apprentice working for Jet 2’s Recruitment, HR and Talent team, showcased the travel brand in an engaging and dynamic presentation, sharing information about the different areas of the company, from package holidays aimed at the youth market to indulgent bespoke breaks in high end resorts. During the session, students were able to explore the differences between Jet 2 and other travel operators, and discover what sets them apart from their competition, both locally and nationally.

Students in the session were also introduced to the wide range of opportunities in the travel sector – and the broad spectrum of roles that it takes to make Jet 2 successful – from the obvious roles such Cabin Crew and Pilot to the roles required behind the scenes in Head Office. The session ended in an informative Q&A where students were able to quiz Cerys on her career, and how she successfully gained a prestigious place on one of Jet 2’s popular apprenticeships, including her top tips for a successful application.

Amanda Beirne, Teacher of Travel and Tourism, comments “Students studying a qualification in Travel and Tourism often aspire to progress to a career in the travel industry- and this insightful presentation from one of the region’s biggest employers has genuinely helped our students to understand the wide range of possibilities that are open to them beyond HNC. Cerys shared her journey from education to the Jet 2 apprenticeship programme and this has been incredibly helpful for our students who are in the process of planning how to achieve their dream careers”.
