OH YES THEY DID! STUDENTS ATTEND LOCAL PANTO
22.12.2023HNC Applied Health and Social Care and our final year group of Early Years students recently attended this year’s pantomime at The Lawrence Batley Theatre, Cinderella, for a festive end to the term!
Students studying for a qualification in Health and Social Care or Early Years (please note this is our final cohort of Early Years and Childcare students) are preparing for a career working with people, with many of the cohort aspiring to work with children and young people. The group recently had the opportunity to attend a pantomime, based on the childhood classic fairytale of Cinderella – a story about a young woman who suffers at the hands of her stepfamily in a story of resilience and overcoming adversity, and how kindness will always triumph over hate.
The group enjoyed a fantastically tongue in cheek performance of this classic tale, which was full of spectacular costumes, witty dialogue, and dance in your seat musical numbers, experiencing how shows and performances like a pantomime keep the magic of storytelling alive for children of all ages.

Our students really enjoyed the opportunity to watch a pantomime and discover how children can benefit from the experience of a live performance. Not only is a pantomime a classic Christmas activity for families up and down the country, but it is also an activity that for young people builds on their cultural capital from a young age. It showcases how as educators we can engage with children and young people in a variety of ways – and not only using traditional methods. For reluctant readers, for example, live stage shows can help to engage their interest in classic story telling, which in turn supports their wider development. This was a wonderful end to a very busy term, and I look forward to many more enriching experiences in the new year!”
