A WONDERFUL WINTER SHOWCASE – HNC’S PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS WOW ON STAGE

Students from across HNC’s Performing Arts department recently hosted and performed in a Winter Showcase in the College’s Boilerhouse Theatre, performing an eclectic mix of dance and musical numbers in front of a full house.

Students studying a Performing Arts course here at HNC take part in a wide variety of performances throughout the year, honing their stage talent and learning more about the backstage processes necessary for a successful show. As part of their ongoing assessment for their Applied qualifications, the group hosted a matinee and evening performance, which included a range of numbers from the Musical ‘We Will Rock You’, which this year will be performed as our highly anticipated end of year musical.

Throughout the two acts, the audience was treated to an engaging and high energy mix of performances, including songs from the musicals We Will Rock You, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Heathers, as well as a range of solo and group dances that included jazz, contemporary dance and ballet.

Cat John, Teacher of Dance and Musical Theatre, commented “What a brilliant winter showcase! Our students have been working behind the scenes to rehearse their performances ahead of the show, and their hard work and dedication has really paid off. As well as forming an important part of our students’ final grades, the opportunity to perform really does support our students to build their industry skills. It is well known that Performing Arts is a competitive career, and the experiences that our students benefit from here at HNC really do give them a head start on their careers. I can’t wait for our next live performance!”
