BONJOUR TO AMAZING EXPERIENCES! HNC JOINS PSYCHOLOGY LIVE AT DISNEYLAND

HNC’s Criminology and Psychology students have recently returned from an action-packed trip to Paris, where they took part in Psychology Live! – an immersive event designed to complement the lessons learnt in the classroom.

Throughout the conference, the group took part in a wide range of enlightening talks and lectures which explored a variety of psychological theories and techniques. The event included talks from therapist to elite sporting stars, Natalie Pennicotte-Collier, who shared her personal story on overcoming PTSD and childhood abuse, and criminologist, Professor Craig Jackson, who delivered a fascinating lecture on narcissism. The group also heard from Dave Chawner, who has struggled with an eating disorder – and how as a man, he was one of the first to start exploring how to help men overcome this debilitating condition. Students also had the opportunity to take part in lectures to improve their own wellbeing, from how to overcome procrastination to improve revision and exam techniques, to the importance of sleep and how to improve sleep health.

Following on from the conference, the group spent further time in Disneyland, enjoying the park and meeting an array of Disney characters, as well as spending time in the city, where the group had the opportunity to explore famous landmarks – including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe – and enjoy the culinary delights that Paris had to offer! Our gallery below showcases how there was time to enjoy the culture of Paris too!

Adam Midgley, Teacher of Criminology, comments “What a fabulous experience! Psychology Live! is a genuinely enlightening conference that has built on the lessons learnt in the classroom. This year’s conference focused on some particularly challenging topics, and we heard from an impressive list of keynote speakers. Our students often aspire to move into a psychology based career post-HNC, and I know that hearing from well respected psychologists and criminologists has further motivated them to work towards their dream specialism in this field. I would also like to say how proud I am of our students, who embodied our College values throughout the visit – their behaviour was even complimented by our coach driver throughout the trip!”
