PHOEBE CLOSES THE DEAL! HNC STUDENT SECURES EXCITING WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY

HNC supports students to secure a wide range of work experience opportunities to ensure they can achieve their vision for the future. As a College, we link with a wide range of employers and organisations so students can access experiences that will help them to stand out from the crowd and develop the skills needed to shine during interviews.

Recently the College has been working with Martin Thornton Estate Agents to offer a work experience opportunity in this exciting and varied industry. The estate agency sector was valued at £13.5bn in 2024, and offers a varied and exciting range of careers and progression opportunities. In reflection of the real world experience, students applied for this prestigious work experience opportunity and the College’s work experience team shortlisted applications which were then reviewed by Martin Thornton Estate Agents. Four candidates were then offered an interview with the owner of Martin Thornton Estate Agents and the team.

Phoebe B was the selected candidate, and will now join the team for a full week of experience in April where she will learn more about what working in the sector involves, from the obvious of valuing of houses and conveyancing to learning more about how estate agents gain new clients and market properties. Phoebe is pictured below with our Employer Liaison Officer Rebecca King.

Rebecca King, Employer Liaison Officer comments: “A number of students submitted applications for this exciting position, and we shortlisted four to go forward to the next stage. All four were offered a formal interview, and asked a range of questions which reflected questions they could be asked in a real life interview scenerio. Everyone did an incredible job, but Phoebe stood out to the panel, as she had undertaken additional research about the sector to inform her answers. I can’t wait to hear more about her experience!”

Phoebe adds: “My ambition is to enter the property sector, and this experience will really help me to do that and possibly apply for apprenticeships. The interview was a chance to share my interest and passion, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming week where I will be part of the team at Martin Thornton!”

Luke Foster, Sales Negotiator at Martin Thornton Estate Agents said: “It was genuinely really difficult to reach a decision, but with one opening we had to make a decision. Phoebe really impressed us, both with her bubbly personality and genuine knowledge and passion for the industry.”
