HNC STUDENT LUCAS IN WHEELCHAIR TENNIS SUCCESS

HNC is delighted to reveal that student Lucas Town has recently been crowned the winner of the Novice Wheelchair Tennis event held at the Birchwood Community Hub in Warrington.

Lucas, who studies A Levels in Business and Computer Science, alongside Applied Digital Games, is a keen tennis player, training at both Thongsbridge Tennis Club and the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds. An accomplished player, Lucas has also represented England, as well as competing regionally in a number of fixtures, both in singles and doubles tournaments. His recent win at Birchwood followed a dominant singles performance, winning two of his four matches 6-0. On the day, Lucas also competed with his doubles partner, Alex, playing the top seeds of the event in closely contested games with fine margins.

The rest of the season is looking busy for Lucas, who will be competing in a further 9 tournaments this season, including representing England in the U18s School Games, hosted at Loughborough University. Lucas comments “I have been playing tennis for 6 years now, and I am incredibly proud to have been crowned the winner of the Novice Wheelchair Tennis event and enjoyed playing a range of matches with my doubles partner Alex. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and hope to emulate my successes at Birchwood again in the near future”.

Ryan Trainer, Progress Tutor, comments “Lucas is a well respected and engaged member of my aspire group, and I see every week how he works hard to become his best self. Not only does Lucas embody the College’s values, he also commits completely to his studies and his sport and this is shown in the successes he’s achieved inside and outside of the classroom”.

We would like to wish Lucas every success in his upcoming tournaments. You can keep up to date with Lucas’ tennis career on his Instagram account, @lucastownwheelchairtennis
