BECOMING YOUR BEST SELF: HNC STUDENT SECURES DREAM DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP

HNC is delighted to reveal that Year 13 student, Christian, has secured a degree level apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering at Solenis, a global company that manufactures specialist chemicals, following a rigorous application process that saw him secure this prestigious role and pursue his dream career in Engineering.

Degree apprenticeships are becoming an ever more popular progression route for students leaving HNC. With a degree level apprenticeship, apprentices continue their education to degree level, whilst also gaining invaluable industry experience and earning a salary. Although degree level apprenticeships usually take longer to complete than a traditional undergraduate degree, apprentices will complete their qualification with no student debt, and often with a guaranteed role at the company after they graduate.

Solenis is one of the regions biggest employers, and with a global revenue of over 4 billion dollars, is an employer who offers a wide range of roles within its diverse workforce, from sustainability to engineering, including a well-regarded apprenticeship programme. The apprenticeship programme provides College leavers with a unique opportunity to develop their industry skills while gaining a degree at two of their UK sites, Bradford and Grimsby, with the Bradford site being the largest and most productive single-site chemical facility in the UK. For Christian, who will be based at Solenis’ Bradford office, this route post-HNC was a no brainer. Christian comments “For me, a degree level apprenticeship seemed the best option. I didn’t want to end my education at 18, but I did want to jump straight into gaining industry experience. As well as gaining my degree, I will also develop my industry knowledge within the manufacturing plant”.

Joe Norton, Head of Faculty (Enrich), comments “Securing a degree level apprenticeship at a global organisation is something to be incredibly proud of, and Christian has worked hard to secure a position in an sector that is not only competitive, it is also one which provides a wealth of opportunities, both nationally and internationally. I am delighted to welcome Solenis to our Careers Event tomorrow (Wednesday 12 June). Students on the day will be able to discuss the degree level apprenticeship programme and find out more about this global employer and all the possibilities it offers. Here at HNC we give students the tools needed to become their best self and realise their dream career. Tomorrow is another great opportunity for our students to network with local employers and organisations which will support progression”.
