GOING FOR GOLD: HNC STUDENTS COMPLETE CHALLENGING EXPEDITION

HNC has announced that eleven students have recently completed their gruelling and challenging four day expedition as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.

Starting at Whiteley Wood Centre, the group trekked across miles of stunning countryside, camping at North Lees on night one. Carrying all their kit, food and resources, the group navigated the Hope Valley, a stunning part of the Peak District, enjoying the beauty of the River Derwent, spots such as Redmires Reservoir and the wider Peak District, with their adventure ending in Edale where they caught the train home. Over the course of the four days, the group which consisted of Shawn B, Max C-H, Joe D, Lucy E, Tegan H, Mia H, Olivia H, Izzie H, Byron L, Alex L and Olivia R, they successfully worked as part of a team, made group decisions, solved problems, communicated and showed clear self-development as they navigated around 40 miles of open country and public pathways. The next step is for students to deliver their presentations, and complete their Gold awards!

Jay Bolt, who was part of the staff team working with the group comments: “Undertaking the Gold award is a challenging experience, and the four day expedition sees participants being pushed to be their very best selves as they problem solve, work together and show the resilience and fortitude needed to complete their adventure. It was a privilege to work alongside the group, who were fantastic ambassadors for HNC, demonstrating our College values of accountability , consistency, motivation, resilience and courage during every step of their journey. We cannot wait to celebrate the group completing their Gold awards!”
