Our Pre-Applied Pathway offers you the opportunity to join HNC and gain the qualifications you need to access our Applied or Blended Pathway.

These year long courses give you the skills, knowledge and academic foundation you need to progress. Most students who study one of our Pre-Applied Pathway courses do progress to an Applied or Blended Pathway, although equally you can opt to pursue employment or an apprenticeship.

Are you considering a career in the world of sport? Can you see yourself working in the industry in the future, perhaps coaching others? Then our Pre-Applied Sport course could be for you.

This course can also provide access to Applied study both in this area, and other subjects. This course will see you studying topics that help develop the knowledge, understanding and practical skills you will need to succeed in the sporting industry. Upon successful completion of the course you will have a qualification equal to 3 GCSEs, along with GCSE Maths and English (if you are retaking these).

Please note that if you study a course on the Pre-Applied Pathway this is a full time programme and therefore you will not study any other subjects alongside this

Standard requirements for a Pre-applied pathway and a grade 3 in GCSE Science.

Some of the topics you will study will include:

  • The mind and sports performance
  • Performance in action
  • Training for personal fitness and leading sports activity
  • Injury and the sports performer

Educate, Enrich, Enlighten

Through your experience of practical activities and theory you will develop your self-confidence, written and verbal communication skills. Group work, role plays and presentations will offer you the chance to develop as a student and prepare you for your next step. Your projects and assignments are based on real life situations, giving you the ability to see how the theory you are learning relates to real life.

You’ll enjoy a range of trips and visits. Our students have enjoyed placements at Opta Sports, visits to the English Institute of Sport, Rokt activity centre, and various outdoor challenge centres

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams.

For most students the Pre-Applied Pathway leads to further study at HNC, either on the Applied or Blended Pathway. Some students do choose to enter the workplace at a junior level, including applying for an apprenticeship.
