HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS OF THE FUTURE INSPIRED BY UNIVERSITY WORKSHOPS

Applied Health and Social Care students have recently taken part in a range of university level workshops to build their skills ahead of important progression decisions, and preparing for admissions interviews, as part of the UCAS application process.

Applied Health and Social Care prepares students for a career working with people. These informative sessions and workshops have not only stretched and challenged understanding of the topics learnt in the classroom; the sessions have also supported the group to effectively plan their next steps, from discovering the wide range of potential careers within the sector, to gaining invaluable tips and hints on the competitive university application process.

On a hands-on and inspiring visit to the University of Leeds, the group were invited to experience a range of special lectures and workshops, choosing from subjects such as Nursing (Child, Adult and Mental Health), Social Work and Midwifery. Undertaken in the University’s state of the art ‘hospital’ environment, the sessions gave a genuine insight into the different subjects, providing a flavour of university level study.

This was followed by a workshop led by Ash Scaife, a practicing Paramedic and Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science at the University of Huddersfield. Paramedic Science is an incredibly competitive course, and this session focused on preparing the group for writing an effective personal statement, preparing for an admissions interview and sharing hints and tips on how to secure a place on a competitive university course.

Zoe Potts, Faculty Lead Enlighten, comments “Throughout the Applied Health and Social Care course, we prepare our students for their next steps through a range of opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom. These university level workshops have motivated our students to aim high and build on their preparations for their next steps, helping them to become their best selves. These aspirational university level workshops not only inspire our Applied Health and Social Care students to progress on to a role in industry, they also provide invaluable guidance on how best to achieve their vision, especially when applying for courses such as Midwifery, Nursing and Paramedic Science. These undergraduate courses are in high demand, and these experiences help our students to stand out from the crowd”.
