Hitting The High Notes: End Of Year Music Showcase

Applied Music students at HNC last night wowed a full house in the Boilerhouse Theatre with a high-energy end of year Music Showcase, performing an eclectic mix of music for friends, family and staff.

Students from across Years 12 and 13 took part in the performance, demonstrating the skills they have learnt in the classroom and rehearsal spaces on stage and delivering a slick performance that showcased their musical talents. Students performed some well known classics from across the genres, from a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly me to the Moon’ to Iris’ ‘Goo Goo Dolls’, performing the songs in arrangements that they had composed themselves. The show, which forms an integral part of students’ final assessments, rounded out the year for our Music students, who have spent the past few terms honing their performance skills and stretching their knowledge of music theory.

The end of year Showcase not only provides an essential opportunity for our students to experience performing to a busy audience in a high pressure environment, it also provides an opportunity for them to develop their backstage skills, from planning the running order and compering the event, to putting their business skills to the test by effectively marketing the event, building skills that will support their progression into the notoriously competitive music industry.

James Dash, Course Leader for Applied Music, comments “What. A. Show! I have been blown away by the talented musicians that I have worked with this past year. The quality of this year’s performances are testament to not only our students’ natural talent for music, but also the hard work that they have put in to making sure that they are performing at a level that would not be out of place in a professional performance. The skills that our students learn in the classroom and in our fully equipped rehearsal, recording and performance spaces will support them to successfully move on to careers in the music industry. They really should be proud of themselves for delivering such an impressive end of year show”.
