MATHS FEST 2024: A LEVEL MATHS STUDENTS ATTEND MATHEMATICAL EXTRAVAGANZA!

HNC’s Year 12 and 13 A Level Maths students have recently enjoyed Maths Fest 2024, watching a virtual livestream of the event from the Royal Institution in London.

Hand-crafted by stand-up mathematician Matt Parker and maths author Rob Eastaway, Maths Fest is an all-day extravaganza for sixth-form students to celebrate and be inspired by mathematics. The special event, featuring Silvia Butti, Steve Mould, Alison Kiddle, James Grime and Ben Sparks, and hosted by Matt Parker, is an annual day aimed to inspire and motivate Maths students from across the UK.

Throughout the day, the group took part in a variety of informative sessions, exploring both new and familiar topics, including a fascinating talk on how the A Level Maths content studied in the classroom related to the world around us. Other sessions focused on advice and support for preparing for A Level exams, and where a qualification in Maths can take you.

Chris Smith, Faculty Lead Enrich for Maths and Science, comments “What a fantastic event! It was brilliant to join Maths Fest 2024 virtually from HNC. This was an enlightening opportunity for our A Level Maths students from across Years 12 and 13 to hear from some of the most interesting mathematicians and educators in our subject, with the sessions providing a genuinely insightful understanding of how the Maths we learn in the classroom relates to our wider environment. I know that our students have found the event hugely motivating in preparing for their upcoming exams”.
