Huddersfield New College’s very own debating team came a close second to Hartlepool Sixth Form in a recent Norvic debating competition. The competition sees further education colleges from the Yorkshire region compete in heats, which concluded with a final competition on March 28th.

To come second in this event is a real achievement, and our team this year were incredibly strong. Final year students Abigail Franklin, Sabrina Khawaja, Michelle Masonza, Junaid Patel, Marcus Geddes, Hollie Senior, Phillip Buck, Robert Poole, Katharine Muir and Laura Elliott, attended a rewards lunch with principle Angela Williams, where they received certificates for taking part in the competition.

Angela Williams, principal of Huddersfield New College said “I’m delighted at the success of our Debating team in the recent Norvic Debating competition. Being able to craft a skillful argument supported by judicious evidence and to convince others of the strength of this argument is a skill for life and I am genuinely proud that our students showed that they had this skill in abundance. I am also confident that they will use this skill time and time again to good effect, both at university and beyond in their chosen public facing careers.”
