12 1839 Huddersfield College opens its doors as a Boy’s Grammar School 1974 Huddersfield New College becomes a Sixth Form College 1997 The Boiler House opens 1999 Main building altered, Sports Building opens 2008 The Art and Media Building opens Celebrating 50 years of excellence In 2024, HNC is celebrating fifty years of being a dedicated provider of sixth form education – though the College, and its early predecessors, has been educating the young people of Kirklees and the surrounding areas since 1839. 1974 saw the College take its first steps into co-educational further education, and since the first sixth form cohort joined HNC fifty years ago, the College has continued to promote excellence and ensure that the young people it educates leave with the life-changing qualifications they need to progress to their dream careers.
