51 | Join Us | Contents What happens at interview? We know that coming along to a College interview can be both exciting and nerve-wracking – sometimes a mixture of the two! It is important to understand that the main focus of the interview is making sure your study programme is the right one for you and your ambitions. We also spend time ensuring that there is a good fit between you as a student and the College’s values. It is important to understand that there are no competency based questions or scores. Your interview will include the following: A significant part of your interview will be dedicated to looking at your application choices, and if these are a good fit for your career ambitions. We’ll also check that your predicted grades meet the entry criteria for the course. If they don’t, we’ll discuss possible suitable alternatives We’ll also review your attendance, behaviour and school reference. We need to ensure that you are in a position to meet our ABC expectations, and can only consider making a conditional offer where a student can demonstrate that they are ready for the demands of full time, post-16 study. If your reference identifies that your behaviour, attendance or commitment is below our criteria this will not necessarily mean you won’t be offered a place, but you should expect to discuss this with your interviewer You will also be asked a question about how you align with the College’s vision and values. This is because we want to ensure you understand what is expected of you as a HNC student You’ll be given a decision at interview (unless we require additional information before we can decide e.g. an updated school report demonstrating your grades have changed). In most cases this is a conditional offer of a place – meaning you have a place at HNC as long as you achieve the published entry criteria on GCSE Results Day Our team are friendly and welcoming – the interview is all about making sure HNC is the right environment for you and your ambitions.
